48way Hot Power Scoapex Rack

48way Hot Power Scoapex Rack

48-way hot power Socapex rack is a professional power distribution unit (PDU) primarily used in the live event, theatre, and film industries to safely distribute high-amperage, three-phase electrical power to numerous lighting or stage effects fixtures. It is housed in a robust, often flight-cased, 19-inch rack enclosure for touring and repeated use.

Key features and components of such a rack include:

  • 48 Hot Power Circuits: The unit provides 48 independent, continuously powered electrical circuits (ways), typically rated at 16A or 20A each. "Hot power" (also known as constant power or non-dimmed power) means the fixtures receive a continuous supply of electricity, which is essential for modern moving lights, LED fixtures, and other non-incandescent equipment.

  • Socapex Outputs: The 48 internal circuits are wired to multiple 19-pin Socapex (or similar multi-pin, like Harting) connectors on the output panel. Each 19-pin Socapex connector typically carries six individual circuits (six lives, six neutrals, six earths, plus an alignment pin), so a 48-way rack would usually feature eight of these connectors (8 connectors * 6 circuits = 48 ways).

  • Monitoring and Control: Front panels usually feature digital or analog meters for monitoring input voltages and phase amperages, as well as indicators for "load present" on individual channels. Some advanced models may also offer DMX control for remote switching of specific channels if optional relay modules are installed.
